What is FUE hair transplant surgery?
Thinning of hair and hair loss are normal aspects of aging, affecting both men and women. Hair loss can also occur due to several reasons such as medical conditions, autoimmune disease, or genetics.
Losing hair can greatly affect a person’s emotional and mental health. Hair Doctors can provide highly effective FUE hair transplants in Sydney, restoring hair volume and self-confidence.
FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) is a hair transplant surgery that uses a special tool to extract individual hair follicles from a donor area of the scalp and transplant them to a bald or thinning area.
The extracted follicles are then transplanted into the recipient area one at a time, providing a more natural-looking result than other methods of hair transplantation.
This method of hair transplant surgery is minimally invasive, leaving no linear scar, and is also relatively quick and efficient.

Benefits of FUE hair
There are a variety of benefits that come around from undergoing FUE hair transplant surgery which include:
- Minimally Invasive: FUE hair transplant is a minimally invasive procedure that does not require the use of scalpels or sutures, which reduces the overall risk of complications.
- Natural Results: FUE hair transplants produce natural-looking results that are undetectable to the untrained eye.
- Less Pain: A FUE procedure causes minimal pain and discomfort and does not require general anesthesia.
- Faster Healing Time: Since FUE does not involve the use of scalpels or sutures, it usually has a shorter healing time than other hair transplant methods.
- No Linear Scarring: Unlike traditional hair transplants, which typically leave a linear scar, FUE hair transplants do not cause any visible scarring.
- Cost-Effective: this can be cost-effective with our new specialist nurse performing transplants.
How the FUE hair transplantation procedure is performed
FUE hair transplantation is a minimally invasive procedure that involves removing individual hair follicles from the donor area of the scalp and then transplanting them into the recipient area.
The donor area is usually located at the back of the head, where the hair is typically thicker and more resilient. The hair follicles are carefully extracted one by one using a small punch tool.
Once the donor follicles are extracted, they are then prepared for transplantation. These follicles are grouped together and then inserted into tiny recipient sites in the recipient area.
The entire procedure can take anywhere from three to eight hours, depending on the size of the transplant.
After the procedure is complete, the transplanted hairs will begin to fall out in two to three weeks. However, the roots of the grafts are embedded in by that point and grow back new hair from around 3 months post operatively. This is normal, as the follicles must go through a process of healing and regrowth. The transplanted hairs will begin to regrow within four to six months.
How to maintain results
To maintain results it’s important to properly take care of the transplanted hair. Follow the post-op recommendations closely to ensure optimal healing takes place. Thereafter, resume your normal hair care routine, and attend all follow-up appointments
Hair growth will begin to increase from 3-4 months post-surgery, and typically by month 6, growth will be noticeably thicker, with full results seen at 12-18 months.
For the first couple of nights after surgery, you will be required to sleep with your head elevated on several pillows, a recliner chair or with a travel/neck pillow to avoid you rolling over and rubbing away some grafts. This will help reduce swelling. Avoid strenuous physical activity during the first 3 weeks to prevent elevated blood pressure.
No direct sun exposure, alcohol or smoking during the first two weeks as this will delay healing and damage the grafts.
We recommend a few days off from work to allow time to recover. Swelling may be visible for up to 7-10 days whilst healing.
Recovery time is minimal. As there are no stitches healing is quick and can take up to 2 weeks for the tiny scabs to clear completely,

The cost of FUE hair transplant in Australia can vary greatly depending on the clinic, the extent of the procedure, and the type of transplant being done. Generally, the cost of FUE hair transplant can range anywhere from $5,000 to $20,000.
FUE hair transplants can be worth it for some people. The procedure can be an effective way to restore hair growth and is a relatively non-invasive procedure. However, it is important to speak with a qualified doctor to decide if this is the best option for you.
Yes, FUE hair transplants are designed to be a long-term solution for hair loss. After the grafts have been transplanted, they will continue to grow normally, just like the surrounding hair. The transplanted hair should last a lifetime, although the original hair loss may continue due to the underlying cause of the hair loss. Do also advise to start medication to prevent this from happening.
FUE hair transplants are permanent, with the newly transplanted hair follicles growing for the rest of your life. However, factors such as aging, heredity, and medical conditions can still affect the quality and quantity of hair growth.
FUE hair transplant is not risky if performed by a qualified and experienced surgeon. The procedure is minimally invasive, so there is minimal risk of complications. The risk of infection is also very low.
