PRP and PRF hair treatments
PRP (platelet-rich plasma) and PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) are treatments that use a concentrated preparation made from a sample of the patient’s own blood, which is injected into the scalp. PRF uses a more concentrated fibrin-based preparation than PRP.
PRP or PRF may be considered as part of a non-surgical treatment plan for some people experiencing hair thinning or pattern hair loss. Whether these treatments are suitable for you, and what they involve, is assessed at a consultation and clinical assessment, where your doctor can discuss the potential benefits, risks and limitations.
For additional information, please read our risk and recovery information.
Wondering if PRP or PRF treatment is right for you?
How it works
PRP and PRF are procedures that use a small sample of the patient’s own blood. The blood is drawn and placed in a centrifuge, which separates the platelets from other components. The preparation is then injected into areas of the scalp. PRP and PRF may be considered as part of a non-surgical treatment plan for some people experiencing hair thinning or hair loss.
Treatment is typically given as a series of sessions, with the number depending on your individual circumstances. Results vary between individuals and may not be apparent for several months, if at all. Your doctor will discuss the potential benefits, risks and limitations with you at consultation.
Recovery
Recovery is usually quick. Many patients are able to return to normal activities soon after the procedure, though some may experience slight swelling or redness at the injection sites for a few days. Follow your doctor’s aftercare instructions, which may include avoiding strenuous activity and direct sun exposure for a few days, using a cold compress to reduce any swelling or discomfort, and using a mild shampoo to keep the scalp clean.

About PRP and PRF treatment
PRP and PRF are minimally invasive treatments that use a preparation made from the patient’s own blood, injected into the scalp, with no surgical incisions involved. They may be considered as part of a non-surgical treatment plan for some people experiencing hair thinning or hair loss.
Whether PRP or PRF is suitable for you, and what it may or may not achieve, is assessed at a consultation and clinical assessment, where your doctor can discuss the potential benefits, risks and limitations.
