What are PRP and PRF hair treatments?

PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) and PRP (platelet-rich plasma), are two very similar treatments that use growth factors in plasma to stimulate hair follicles, which in turn leads to an increase in hair growth.

A study conducted in 2018 found that PRP hair treatment can increase the number of hairs on a patient’s scalp significantly.

If you suffer from hair thinning conditions such as male pattern baldness and would like to improve your confidence and restore natural hair growth, PRF or PRP hair treatment could be a minimally invasive restorative hair treatment option that can help you achieve your goals.

For more information on how PRF and PRP hair treatment in Sydney can help you, please contact us today or book your consultation.

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is a type of therapy used to treat hair loss that involves injecting a patient’s own blood plasma, enriched with platelets, into the scalp. The platelets release growth factors that stimulate the hair follicles and promote hair growth.

PRF (Platelet Rich Fibrin) is a similar type of therapy used to treat hair loss. However, PRF uses a more concentrated platelet-rich fibrin matrix (PRFM) which is obtained from the patient’s blood.

This matrix contains a higher concentration of platelets which can stimulate the growth of new blood vessels and promote hair follicle health. This can lead to increased hair growth and improved hair quality.

Both PRP and PRF are effective treatments for hair loss; however, PRF may offer a more concentrated and potent product to stimulate hair regrowth.

use PRF & PRP therapy to stimulate hair growth.

How it works

Both PRF and PRP treatments are procedures that use a patient’s own blood to stimulate new hair growth. During the procedure, a small amount of the patient’s blood is drawn and then placed in a centrifuge, which separates the platelets from other components of the blood.

The platelets are then injected into the areas of the scalp where hair growth is desired. The platelets contain growth factors stimulating the body’s natural healing and hair growth process. These growth factors activate the follicular stem cells, resulting in new and thicker hair growth. The growth factors also cause the follicles to produce thicker and longer hair.

In addition to stimulating new hair growth, these treatments help improve the existing hair’s thickness and strength as well as reducing hair loss due to scalp damage or other factors. The treatments are typically done as a series of 3-5 sessions.

The number of sessions required will depend on the individual patient’s needs. It is important to note that results will vary and may not be seen for several months after the procedure.

Recovery time

The recovery time after PRF or PRP hair treatment is usually very short, anything from 12-24 hours. Most patients experience no downtime and can return to their normal activities immediately after the procedure. However, some patients may experience slight swelling or redness at the injection sites for a few days after treatment.

It is important to follow the doctor’s instructions for aftercare, which may include avoiding strenuous activities and direct sun exposure for a few days.

Additionally, the use of a cold compress to reduce any swelling or discomfort may be advised. The doctor may also recommend using mild shampoo and conditioner to keep the scalp clean and healthy.

Benefits of PRP and PRF hair loss treatment for hair regrowth
