Hair loss is a common condition that affects many men and women, and it can influence how a person feels about their appearance. The right approach depends on the underlying cause of hair loss and each person’s circumstances, which is why treatment begins with a consultation and clinical assessment.
A hair transplant is a procedure that relocates hair follicles from a donor area of the scalp, usually at the back or sides of the head, to areas affected by thinning or hair loss. At Hair Doctors we use follicular unit extraction (FUE), which involves extracting individual follicular units directly from the donor area and implanting them into the treatment area, without removing a strip of tissue.

At your initial consultation, which takes approximately 45 minutes, you will meet with one of our doctors directly, who will complete an advanced scalp analysis and create an individualised treatment plan.
On the day of your procedure
The FUE hair transplant is performed under local anaesthetic. Hair grafts are harvested from the donor area at the back of the head one by one, and no stitches are required. Each graft naturally contains one, two or three hair follicles, which are prepared and transplanted to the thinning or balding area. The grafts are implanted individually and at an angle intended to follow the direction of your existing hair.
After your procedure
For the first few nights, you will need to sleep with your head elevated on several pillows or in a recliner chair, which helps reduce swelling. Avoid strenuous physical activity during the first week to prevent elevated blood pressure. Avoid direct sun exposure, alcohol and smoking during the first two weeks, as these can delay healing and damage the grafts. We recommend a few days off work to allow time to recover. Swelling may be visible for up to 7 to 10 days while healing.
Recovery
Because there are no stitches, healing is relatively quick, and the small scabs can take up to two weeks to clear completely.

How to Maintain
YOUR Results
Caring for the transplanted hair supports your results. Follow the aftercare recommendations closely to help healing, then resume your normal hair care routine and attend all follow-up appointments.
New growth typically begins to increase from around 3 to 4 months after your procedure and is often noticeably thicker by around month 6. Final results for hairline work typically develop by around 12 months, while crown work can take up to around 18 months, as growth in the crown is generally slower. Individual recovery and results vary, and your doctor will discuss the timeline that applies to you.

The cost of a hair transplant depends on the number of grafts required. We perform procedures of different sizes, from a small number of grafts up to 3,500 grafts in one procedure. Each graft contains one to three hairs.
